How to choose a tour ?! for the Holy Land...
1. Be wise in your selection of a tour operating company - what are their links in Israel, are they reputable companies, do they fight for you well, on behalf of your agent?
2. What is the reputation of your travel company? Are they well known to the persons selling your tour? Is Israel their focus or is it just another country? It is vital that you familiarize yourself with the small details in terms of what your package includes and what it does not. Usually this information is on the back page of the brochure.
3. Who are the tour hosts? Are they familiar with the Middle East? Have they been there before? Do they appear to be interested in you as a person? Do they have good organizational skills? Are their words substantiated by references?
4. What are the competencies of your tour guides? Will you be able to understand their English? Do they match the type of tour you are going on? i.e. If you are taking a spiritual pilgrimage, will the guide understand the implications of your Christian faith?
5. What hotels are you staying in, and what is their standard? Are your hotels ones that your leaders are acquainted with? The standard of hotel will indicate the standard of the food you will be having while staying there. If the quality of food is poor, you will inevitably have people who have stomach problems etc throughout the tour.
6. How many hotels will you be staying in? Guard against frequency of moves to prevent fatigue.
7. Check out the weather in the country for the time of year you are planning on travelling. Extreme temperatures can be very exhausting. While buildings and buses may be air-conditioned, touring Israel has a lot of outdoor areas to spend time in. Your health conditions should be a determining factor in choosing the various seasons to travel.
8. Dollar value is important. i.e. Ten day tours give you seven touring days, then if you have one free day, in essence you are paying mostly for airfares, and not getting good value for your money. The more days you stay, the cheaper the ratio of your airfare and touring.
9. Quality of transportation. Because you spend a lot of time getting off and on your bus, be sure your standard of bus is going to be high. Do not settle for second rate.
10. If you are desiring a spiritual pilgrimage, make sure the tour you are choosing, as well as the tour hosts, have the same goal in mind.
When you have checked everything through, and you know the selection suits you, sign up for your spiritual pilgrimage through the company you have chosen, and enjoy the blessings of visiting the Land of the Book. "You'll never be the same again!"
